Meet Louise

Louise in a Mood mood

Would-be world traveler. Map enthusiast. Texture magpie.

As a child, I could spend hours poring over my family’s massive, hard-covered atlas. I would trace the rivers and marvel at the mountain ranges.

As I moved into adulthood, the fascination held steady. Travel was my favorite pastime and travel-planning was my career.
I continued to dream of crossing the ocean and climbing those mountains.

I came to sewing in my late-thirties, starting as many do, with traditional quilts. The more familiar that I became with textiles and techniques, I understood that this was more than a passing hobby—this was art.

My work translates those maps and landscape photos into textile-based works of art. I agonize over just the right textile and design element, happily sorting through my boxes and bins.

My journey to portrait artist presented itself not as a long-practiced skill, but as a gesture of friendship. With every cut and stitch, I knew that I could help more people to honor and memorialize their pets.

“My soul is fed with a needle and thread.”
